Here’s the second painting I’ve done of Ken’s Grill, a popular barbecue joint on Hwy 70 just west of Kinston, NC. Click on Strength in numbers to see a field of sunflowers, another of my recent works, painted just down the road from Ken’s. It’s rare in my oil painting that I use a brush these days, but when I’m after things like lettering on a sign, it makes a lot more sense to use a brush rather than a knife. Painted en plein air late in the day, I achieved warmth in this painting by first laying in a ground color of bright orange.
